A suitable announcement to kick off the blog of my new writing site: my first short story (mini) collection “the Singing Sands and Other Stories” has been released! The publisher is Demain whose output I admire very much, so that is rather pride-enhancing.
Get it on your Amazons here (UK) and here (USA).
These stories live somewhere between weird fiction and horror, share a universe of sorts – one without mobile phones and other post 1970s tech – in a somewhat Earth adjacent place. The setting is more like our Earth then not, except that it is supernaturally porous, with dark entities entering and leaving and scheming all the time.
These stories are about lost, curious or cursed people, and the grotesque, fantastical, weird and shocking encounters thrust upon them by fate, hubris or plain bad luck. (OK that is perhaps a bit flowery, but I’m trying to paint a certain mood, darnit!)
Here are the blurbs for each story:
The Singing Sands: "For those who listen carefully, the singing sands promise to reveal knowledge long buried. When Charles hears their song, he becomes obsessed, and starts to investigate what lies beneath, no matter the cost."
Dear Reader: "What lies behind the words in a story? What is the true nature of prose? Of ink on the page? Is it simply fiction? Or is there more?"
The Ballroom Under the Lake: "Emrys and Reginald -- two unlikely friends – are masters at uncovering strange, hidden places. But when they find the ballroom under the lake, they learn that some secrets go beyond mere friendship and strike at the core of their very being."
I enjoyed writing these so much that I have transitioned into a horror writing mindset for now, and started my third novel in that vein. (More on that in another post)
